Junior Ainsley Shahady has been chosen for Athlete of the Week due to her being a standout athlete and caring teammate as a part of East’s Varsity Girls Tennis.
Shahady is a three-year member of the Tennis program at East but has been playing for six years. She plays as one-half of the 1st doubles team on varsity. She pushes herself to be the best she can by giving every match her all, and listening to her coaches.
“My coaches really push me to try my hardest, even if it’s hard, putting in the work, like extra privates and practices.” Shahady said.
Coach Peter Conrad expresses great hope in Shahady, believing she is a key part of the team and brings a lot to the team, in and out of matches.
“Ainsley has a 16-1 record and has been a strong team leader this season.” Conrad said.
Shahady believes that tennis is more than just a sport for her, but something that teaches her life lessons and values to live by.
“Tennis has definitely taught me patience because I get in my head a lot during matches so I need to get myself to be calm and not get in my head as much.” Shahady said.
Not only does Shahady bring her all while playing, she always makes an effort to boost team morale and be there for her team.
Senior Tessa Koutsogiannis, has seen her grow throughout her high school career, and believes Shahady has a positive attitude and impact for herself and her teammates.
“Ainsley supports her teammates by cheering us on during matches even while she’s playing,” Koutsogiannis said.
Shahady is a big contributor to the success of the team, while always being there for the rest of the girls involved.
“Ainsley contributes to the close team bond we have by always chatting with everyone on the bus and off the courts while in school. She makes jokes to lighten the mood and always tells funny stories.” Koutsogiannis said.
Shahady is unsure about her future in tennis, not knowing if she will play in college or not, however whatever she decides to do, she believes tennis is a huge aspect of her life and will continue to live by the lessons this sport has taught her.
