This winter, East will put on a production of “Heaven Can Wait” written by playwright Harry Segall. The production will showcase a romantic comedy reflecting the journey of life, death and everything that happens in between.
“Heaven Can Wait” will be the perfect kick off to the 2026 program with a mix of challenge and excitement for the cast and crew as they dive into a post World War 2 scene
English teacher Kathleen Belovsky is going into her twelfth year with East theater and will serve as the director for the production.
“We’re learning some of the lingo and jokes from the late 30s and Mrs. Chandler is going to build me a two story house. I have full faith in her and the crew, I’m confident that we can meet this challenge,” Belovsky said.
The excitement from the ones behind the curtains are rubbing off on the cast who will be bringing the ideas to life.
Bella Slevin, a senior in East’s theatre program, has been a part of nine productions in her four years, but feels this play is special and looks forward to how things could deliciously unfold over the next month of rehearsals.
“I think it’s something very different than what we’ve done before. Having the PAC back is also going to be huge for this show’s success” Slevin said.
The program gathered for the show’s first table read on Nov. 10. The room was filled with talent and laughter, according to director Belovsky. The first read is just the beginning of the hard work the cast and crew will endure over the next couple of months to put together an unforgettable experience for the audience.
Though there is no set opening date for the production, East theater is working hard to bring the show to life for the start of the new year.
