Striking up a new athlete this week, our athlete of the week is junior Bethanie Norman. Norman was chosen this week not only because she is a key asset to the East girls’ bowling team, but also because she strongly exemplifies E.A.S.T.’s core values of excellence, academics, spirit, and tradition.
Norman’s teammates describe her as a leader who is always making sure that the team is on task and in good spirits, but coaches describe her as more than that.
Head coach for girls’ bowling, Fallon Jordan praised Norman for her commitment and impact on the team.
“She was chosen because of her care and dedication not only to bowling, but to her academics as well.”
Norman serves as the team’s lead varsity bowler, a role she has earned through her accuracy, reliability, and strong performance in competition. Her consistent scoring and focus during matches have made her a key contributor to the team’s success.
“she earns her position through consistency and accuracy in her shots.” Jordan said
Beyond her individual performance, Norman is also known for her positive energy and leadership. She regularly encourages her teammates and helps keep morale high during both practices and matches.
“She is a major source of energy for the team and is great at picking up her teammates.”
Because of her leadership, consistency, and commitment to excellence, Bethanie Norman is a deserving choice for this week’s Girls Bowling Athlete of the week.
“I started bowling around covid” Norman said “We had nothing to do, so my dad would take us to the bowling alley”
Norman’s work ethic stands out to both her coaches and teammates. She is known as one of the hardest workers in practice, and her dedication is reflected in her continual improvement and strong performances.
“My highest game is a 02:56 I believe: and then my highest three game series is a 06:55”
Norman’s hard work and dedication to bowling has led to many accomplishments, including going to state 2 years in a row.
“My biggest accomplishment is going to state 2 years in a row, and we practiced a lot to reach that goal,” Norman said. “Out of school during the summer,I will practice about 2 or three times a week.”
Looking ahead, Norman is eager to see what the season holds and hopes to qualify for state.
