Senior Goda Vievesis has been named Athlete of the Week for her dedication, spirit, and exemplification of East’s core values of excellence, academics, spirit, and tradition.
Vievesis has been playing volleyball since she was 14, and has played for East all four years. At the end of her sophomore year, she was pulled up to varsity for regionals and has remained a part of the varsity team since.
Girls varsity volleyball coach, Dina Beamon, has chosen to award Vievesis with this honor because of her spirited personality on and off the court.
“Goda exuberates spirit,” Beamon said. “She gives her all in uplifting her teammates, the program, and everyone she crosses. She leaves an everlasting stain of joy, support, and kindness!”
Not only is Vievesis seen as being especially spirited, but she is also a very determined athlete with big goals for the team this year.
“Our goal this year is to obviously win conference, and I think it would be cool if we went far and won regionals too,” Vievesis said.
The road for Vievesis hasn’t been easy, with an injury affecting her junior season, her future in volleyball was uncertain.
“Last year Goda pushed through injuries and even doubt, and as a senior middle she has come back stronger mentally and physically,” Beamon said.
While juggling volleyball practices and games, Vievesis has also maintained a 3.7 GPA, exemplifying the ideals of a student athlete.
“Goda has worked so hard to maintain her academics and pushed through some difficult classes and has been committed to being a student athlete and on top of her studies,” Beamon said, “She has always held herself accountable and has never complained about anything requested of her; instead, she found ways to bring joy.”
While Vievesis has no plans to play college volleyball, she does plan to attend the University of Kentucky and major in nursing.
