Coalition Club is holding their next meeting on Sept. 17 in room F231. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Coalition defines itself on their Instagram page as, “a student-led group amplifying diverse voices, fostering inclusion, and driving change in our schools and community.”

Club President Carsyn Poindexter and Vice President Kameron Williams work together with board members from Oswego East and Oswego High School to guide the club’s mission.

“People can do any type of performance, answer questions, break-out rooms, and discuss certain topics that can be sensitive,” Poindexter said.

Last year, Coalition Club held a meeting about women’s menstrual health and discussed the topics of menstrual products in women’s bathrooms. Along with their bi-weekly meetings, they frequently attend trips and host a variety of events like AMPLIFY and ASCEND.

Poindexter describes ASCEND as a getaway from school, where students can learn and voice their opinions and feedback to the school. This year, it is hosted at Waubonsee Community College.

“[ASCEND is] a chance for us to connect with all types of different schools on problems. We have the teachers present to us about any topics that they want to [discuss], and we give them feedback,” Poindexter said.

AMPLIFY was hosted on March 7 this year at East. Students organize activities such as presentations and performances to engage more people in their community.

“…everybody comes in, they watch, they sit down, we go through like little skits, we do breakout rooms,” said Williams.

AMPLIFY is a great opportunity for all members of the community to interact and hear many different stories and perspectives.

The club meets bi-weekly in room F231 in the mornings from 6:45 AM to 7:14 AM. Coalition is an amazing chance to meet many new people and share your experiences in a safe and supportive environment.
