Are Fall Flavors Overhyped?

Pumpkin, apple, pecan, and cinnamon; all popular flavors this season. As fall approaches, more businesses are releasing their fall menus. The true question is, are they overhyped?

Although these menus have been popular in the past, they have reached a new audience through social media. The sudden craze has caused a huge turnout for businesses. In fact, many people count down the days until they can taste these flavors again.

Seniors Sammy Herrick and Maddie Robertson were ecstatic while talking about the fall menu.

“I came across fall flavors from social media and my friends talking about it… my go-to order from Dunkin is a pumpkin shaken espresso,” Herrick said. “I always get the pumpkin chai latte from Starbucks…I buy it typically twice a week,” Robertson said.

These students were enthusiastic about their love for fall flavors. The two feel that the satisfaction of their usual drink is worth visiting frequently.

While fall drinks are all the rage, fall foods are just as popular. Senior Angelo McLernon often visited Keller’s Farmstand in Oswego growing up and is recently employed there.

“The apple cider donuts are definitely my favorite item at Keller’s,” McLernon said. “They are for sure a crowd favorite as well.”

The business reopened for the fall season Sept. 6 and is open until Oct. 26. They offer a variety of fall-flavored items, which draw customers in each season.

Not everyone shares the same love for fall flavors. Senior Hayden Mulacek has a differing opinion. After hearing his friend’s recommendations for certain fall drinks, he was persuaded to try

“I don’t like how cinnamon tastes in drinks, and I specifically hate pumpkin spice.” Mulacek said.

Fall flavors are a divisive topic at East. Whether you like it or not, the fall season has arrived, and the flavors are taking over your favorite coffee shops. Give the flavors a try and decide for yourself if they are overhyped.
