The East Homecoming dance is around the corner, and those attending have many choices to make: shoes, hair, makeup, and a dress. Some people choose to splurge on everything, while others opt to save. Which is the better choice? Is one better than the other? Are some items better to splurge on and others better to save? Let’s find out.
Sellers such as Sherri Hill, Rachel Allan, and Primavera are popular designer brands for homecoming dresses. Some girls are drawn to these styles of dresses, such as senior Natalie Skrocki.
“I save by reusing jewelry and buying shoes on Amazon, but my dress is usually expensive. There are only four homecomings, so it feels worth it to spend the money,” Skrocki said.
Skrocki splurges on her dress to feel special on homecoming night. She and many others balance the prices rather than splurging or saving on everything. Senior Claire Nadziejko prefers to spend on getting her hair professionally done while doing her makeup at home.
“I splurge on my hair. I go to Azza salon and get it styled because my hair is naturally wavy so I know it would take up more time and add stress,” Nadziejko said. “I know how I like my makeup, and I always do practice rounds beforehand so I know it will be perfect the day of.”
Professional hair and makeup may be a necessity to some girls for their homecoming look, while others choose to save on it. The task of doing your hair and makeup on a special occasion can be a lot for some. However, everyone has a preference on what’s important to them.
The value of a dress does not matter to some people. A lot of girls shop online to save on the perfect dress. Some online shopping sites include Oh Polly, Lucy in the Sky, Princess Polly, and many others. Junior Olivia Pawlak finds that saving on her dress gives her the same special feeling.
“I usually buy my dress from Lucy in the Sky and use the same shoes as in past years,” Pawlak said.
What people think is important varies depending on their preferences. There is no right or wrong way to “do” homecoming. Feeling comfortable and classy at Homecoming contributes to an unforgettable night for East students.
