National Chocolate Day is on Tuesday, Oct. 28, this year. This day recognizes all things chocolate, like candy, pastries, drinks, and more! But how did it all come together in the first place?

Chocolate comes from the seed of a cacao tree that originates in Central America, Mexico, and Northern South America. In the past, the chocolate-making process was long and time consuming but now, with modern technology, it can be made much quicker.

There are many types of chocolate, such as milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, ruby chocolate, sweet, and unsweetened chocolate. We asked students at East what their favorite kind was.

Ty Ritter, a senior at East, talks about his favorite flavors of chocolate and candy.

“Milk chocolate. KitKats are my favorite kind of chocolate, though, because they have a nice, tasty crunch.” Ritter said.

Deven Escamilla, a senior at East, also talks about his favorite flavor of chocolate and candy.

“I personally like white chocolate. Specifically, the Hershey’s one. I feel like milk chocolate and white chocolate taste similar.

This year, a new and delicious chocolate invented by a Filipino chef in Dubai has gained immense popularity worldwide. Dubai Chocolate is a rich chocolate bar stuffed with pistachio cream and knafeh that many people love.

Sajjad Takleef, a senior at East, expressed how he feels about Dubai Chocolate.

“I get sick of the normal bars of chocolate, but I love the cups with all the chocolate, cream, and knafeh with strawberries. That’s my favorite way Dubai chocolate is included.” Takleef said.

Overall, chocolate is something that is eaten every day by people all over the world. It can come in many different ways and types, which makes it irresistible. There are holidays throughout the year that also include and celebrate chocolate, but National Chocolate Day is the one to top it all off.
