East’s first round of playoffs lands on Halloween this year. There’s a lot of talk about whether people will be attending on a holiday. The more people in the stands supporting the Wolves will help make this game feel more special for the team.
Although some people would rather watch football instead of celebrating the holiday, many want to participate in spooky activities. To ensure that both groups attend the game, spooky vibes need to be incorporated into Friday’s football game.
Junior Jacsen Tucker has high hopes for the theme on Friday night and is excited to see how Friday night lights look on Halloween.
“I’m really hoping to see clowns and some purge costumes as well. It will help incorporate the spooky theme. I also would love to see some scary decorations around the student section,” Tucker said.
There’s only one holiday a football game could land on, and incorporating the holiday into an already highly anticipated game will have everyone that much more excited and entertained.
Football games for the Wolves are not only for the students, but for the community. Students in middle school also have a section at the games. They are a big part of East supporting fans.
Assistant Athletic Director Jeremy Hillman talked about how he plans on incorporating family time with his son Knox on Halloween while also being able to enjoy the football game.
“The first thing my son said to me when he found out there was a game on Halloween was, ‘What time does trick or treating start? I want to do whatever I can to attend both.’ I told him we will get some family Halloween time and some football time,” Hillman said.
Incorporating spooky themes attracts all crowds, not just the high school students.
Senior Devin Wheaton, a pack leader, talked about how the rest of the leaders plan on incorporating a Halloween theme into Friday night’s game.
“Me and the pack leaders were talking about how we’re going to incorporate everyone’s ideas. We want to see a variety of costumes, some scary, some Disney, a little bit of everything. We also want to throw candy in the air in place of confetti,” Wheaton said. “Make sure we’re keeping face covers limited and make sure we’re tossing soft candies in the air. No throwing candy on the field or at anyone. And, have fun!”
Wheaton also elaborated that he wants to make sure everyone is following the rules set by the admin to stay safe this Friday night.
The Wolves face the Bolingbrook Raiders on Friday, Oct. 31, for the first round of the IHSA 8A playoffs. The game starts at 7 p.m. Be there in spooky gear.
