Every October, candy corn makes its way back into stores and back into debate. Some people see it as a Halloween classic, while others think it’s completely overrated.
Senior Yazmine Cruz said she’s never been a fan. She said she usually prefers chocolate or sour candies instead.
“It’s too sweet and I don’t like the waxy texture,” Cruz said. “I try it every year just to see if I’ll change my mind, but I never do.”
Many correlate candy corn with Halloween and the fall season in specific. But due to such mixed feelings over candy corn, it sparks curiosity about if consumers will continue to indulge in this treat in fall seasons to come.
However, Freshman Ariana Arreguin has a different opinion on the candy corn debate.
“I actually like candy corn,” Arreguin said. “It just reminds me of Halloween and when I was younger. I don’t get why people hate it so much.”
For others, candy corn is more than just a treat, but a tradition that can bring feelings of nostalgia to bring back memories from their past Halloween celebrations.
The divide over candy corn isn’t new. It’s one of those things people either love or hate. For some, it’s not even about the flavor but the tradition.
”Even if I don’t eat it, seeing it around just feels like Halloween,” Cruz said.
Whether it’s a go-to treat or one you avoid completely, candy corn has definitely earned its spot as one of the most talked-about candies.
