Have you seen the large outdoor space at East near the F wing? That is the courtyard. Ever wonder what it’s used for? For the most part, nothing. An idea was brought up by students about 15 years ago to use the space as an area for students to eat lunch.
The space would have volleyball and other activities along with tables for people to eat and enjoy the space during warm seasons. Many students were interviewed about how they would feel about having lunch in the courtyard.
Dominic, junior, said “even just being outside in the sun would make lunch so much better because right now it’s pretty boring.”
Dominic and Javier, both juniors, said that ”it would be fun for kids to bring footballs or soccer balls or tennis balls to play around with.”
There are a couple reasons why the school has not put this plan into action. Mr Jim Vera goes into great detail as to why since he was the one who was pushing to have it done about 15 years ago
“The funding, the supervision, and the noise are the three main reasons why the school has not turned the courtyard into a lunch space,” said Vera.
Vera also said, “There are definitely solutions to these problems but people have just not put enough time or thought into it but I believe that sometime in the future it could happen”
So what do you think? Is this something that you want to accomplish? If so, reach out to the deans or principals to voice your opinion!
