Following events at Cornell University, East’s Women’s Empowerment Club board members launched a consent campaign. As part of the campaign, posters containing information about sex, consent and sexting were placed in bathrooms throughout the building and shared on the Women’s Empowerment Club Instagram page.

On the morning of Oct. 27, Women’s Empowerment Club sponsor Dr. Stephanie Krzeminski received a notice from East Principal Brett McPherson stating that a district office employee had expressed concern about the wording on a portion of the sex and consent poster. As a result, the employee requested that the posters be taken down.

Later that day, another request was made to remove both the sex and consent poster and the sexting poster from school bathrooms. In addition, Dr. Krzeminski received a phone call requesting that both posters be removed from the Women’s Empowerment Club’s Instagram account.

As of now, no reason has been provided for the requested removal of the posters.

The club’s board members and Dr. Krzeminski are awaiting further details from McPherson regarding the decision.
